Think of it as a natural facelift. By inserting ultra-fine, sterilised, disposable needles into the superficial layer of the skin we can achieve the following:
It is an increasingly popular alternative to Botox® (Botulinum Toxin), not to mention safer. We often address our outer appearance using superficial products out of convenience, but we all know that the key to feeling great and having healthy glowing skin comes from within. When one or more of our internal organs (i.e. stomach, liver, lungs, kidneys) experiences an imbalance (IBS, a hangover, breathing difficulties) there is a direct knock-on effect in the body. Our bodies will supply the most energy/attention to the area in need, leaving elsewhere somewhat deprived. Our skin, the largest organ in the body, frequently suffers that depravation.
As well as being a tool to restore equilibrium, the benefits continue into Chinese theory. The liver is the organ responsible for the smooth flow of emotions, as well as Qi (energy) and blood. We can target this in your treatment by needling along the liver meridian, as well as targeting other organs which have further benefits too lengthy to list. Weather your aim is to enjoy this treatment purely as a skin deep anti-aging means or to achieve the internal balance acupuncture creates, the beauty is you will achieve both regardless.
This is a completely natural way of achieving anti-aging results. Most alternatives in the cosmetic industry carry risks, most feared of them is a botched job. There is no need to worry about any complications. Very occasionally you may develop a small bruise around a needle site.
We recommend a course of between 6-12 treatments. You will see a difference to your skin health/tone within the first couple of treatments and changes to fine lines and wrinkles thereafter. The first four treatments should be taken within two weeks then future appointments weekly, becoming more infrequent to fortnightly/monthly. Results are varied person to person and we recommend monthly follow-up treatments after your initial course.
The first session will last an hour and a half and will involve a detailed consultation where we will decide on a treatment plan to suit the goals you wish to achieve, followed by your first treatment session. Expect around 50-80 extra-fine needles placed into the face, taking between 5-10 minutes. Once in situ we leave the needles for 20 minutes.
Along with the facial acupuncture we may decide on needling some body points if anything has come to light in your assessment that can be helped with points on the rest of the body e.g. hands, feet, legs. After removing the needles we will massage a hydrating, nutrient-rich cream into the skin and give you advice for you to follow over the following hours. It’s a good idea to wear something comfortable and loose to the appointment. We may need to access the calves and almost definitely the hands and feet.
Mostly, no. When the needles are inserted you may feel a pinch but it is incredibly short lived and after several are in place it’s surprising how relaxing it starts to feel.
You will have noticed that many people really look after themselves these days. From taking up jogging, eating organic, going Vegan, and exploring mindfulness and mental health – we are a lot more health-conscious now and the last thing we want is toxins in our skin.
Think how many people you see sharing fitness photos, salad recipes and natural facials on social media. Now think of how many people share photos of them receiving Botox.
You can understand why more people are choosing Cosmetic Acupuncture as a natural alternative – with celebs like Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston said to be fans.
